Orbit - A Tangible Interaction Design
The ORBIT is a rotary input on a phone and acts as a solitary button, replacing the need for 3 or 4 different buttons, and will also speed up interactions with the current buttons. The wheel will have a touch sensor on the wheel that will prevent accidental clicks. The wheel's rotation is continuous while providing haptic feedback with short discrete intervals. The clicks and sliding of the wheel are mechanical. The functionality of the button may vary from app to app. The speed of rotating the ORBIT will determine how much the corresponding value will change, ie, not only is the distance/angle of rotation a determinant, but also the angular velocity. This means that to make smaller changes in the values, users can rotate the ORBIT slowly
